See full profile: Pretoria Attorney- Simphiwe Mudau

Were you always planning to be an attorney and why?

No. I was a Laboratory Analyst before I decided to go the Legal route. I fell in love with the Legal field as I saw a need in helping others with Legal matters.

When meeting with clients, do they mostly come to your own premises or do you mostly go theirs?

My clients come to my office.

What is your preferred mode of communication with your clients?

Email, Phone, Face to Face, WhatsApp

Have you ever done an online video call with a client?

Yes

What do you love most about law and being an attorney?

The opportunity to learn daily as every case is different, just like human beings are different.

Would you recommend becoming an attorney as a career for school-leavers, and why?

Yes of course. It keeps your mind sharp as it's not routine work, and also law evolves.

What qualities should South Africans be looking for in their attorney?

Reliability, sympathy, hard work, confidentiality and also a clued-up attorney.

In your view, what are the major problems and/or opportunities facing the legal profession?

The problem is the high rate of unemployment, which makes it hard for the general public to afford attorneys.

What fields of law do you, as an attorney, monthly focus on?

Civil Litigation, Labour Law, Family Law, Administration of the Deceased Estate, Estate Planning, Notary and Conveyancing.

From your experience, if you could cite one of the biggest reasons South Africans need advice from an attorney, what would that be?

The divorce rate is high and responsibility of parents to take care of their children. Children's rights.

Do you think the coming wave of automation in the next few years will steal some legal jobs and why/why not?

I don't think so. The human mind is also needed. No programming can replace the human mind.

Describe your average client

From your typical township person to an established business owner.

How far away from your premises is your furthest client?

+/- 100 km away.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Reading, knitting and crocheting (funny enough).

What is the most interesting thing on your bucket list?

To travel to most African countries to learn more about their cultures and their marital regimes for my LLM.

What has your experience been on FindanAttorney?

It's too early to tell.
