Were you always planning to be an attorney and why?

Yes. I was born with a passion for law.

 

When meeting with clients do they mostly come to your own premises or do you mostly go their theirs?

My clients come to my office

Have you ever done an online video call with a client?

Yes

 

What do you love most about law and being an attorney?

I love helping clients with legal problems. The order law brings into the world brings me joy. I love the diversity of issues that we deal with on a daily basis, even in a specialized area of the law.

 

Would you recommend becoming an attorney as a career for school-leavers, and why?

Yes, but only if you are prepared to work extremely hard, start at the bottom and work your way up, and if you do not get discouraged easily. You have to be able to push through during hard times and be resilient enough to deal with extreme stress.

 

What qualities should South Africans be looking for in their attorney?

Integrity, diligence, good communications skills, proven experience in their field.

 

In your view, what are the major problems and/or opportunities facing the legal profession?

The saturation of the market, the legal system (courts, master's offices, and other role players) not working at their optimum levels.

 

What fields of law do you, as an attorney, mostly focus on?

Property law - conveyancing mostly. Estates

 

From your experience, if you could cite one of the biggest reasons South Africans need advice from an attorney, what would that be?

Law is a speciality and the answers that you need are not always clear and simple. Therefore you need a qualified and experienced attorney.

Normal people from all walks of life.

 

Do you think the coming wave of automation in the next few years will steal some legal jobs and why/why not?

No. Clients will always need an attorney for advice, guidance and to follow the process rules and regulations in their legal matters.

 

How far away from your premises is your furthest client?

I have clients from all over the world - Australia, the UK, the USA and more.

 

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Reading is my favourite pastime.

 

What is the most interesting thing on your bucket list?

An advanced driving course in a racing car.
